Robert Chiapello was 7 years old in 1939 and lived in the Croix-Rouge neighborhood. His father joined the Resistance alongside Pierre Bertone. He participated in operations to recover supplies parachuted onto the Dina plateau. The family was arrested and interrogated by the Gestapo and the Milice. Robert Chiapello’s father was arrested along with Pierre Bertone and Robert Pariset but managed to escape. At 12 years old, in 1944, Robert carried out missions for the Resistance, and at the time of the Liberation, he guarded the Valmasque bridge.
